KOLKATA Anti-Trafficking Initiative
KOLKATA ANTI-TRAFFICKING INITIATIVE
Kolkata, a culturally vibrant city on the eastern seaboard of India, has an urban population of 14.3 million (including suburbs). Kolkata is close to the India – Bangladesh border, and the state of West Bengal is close to Nepal, making Kolkata a main transit city for transnational trafficking into India and from across eastern India. Kolkata has one of the largest red-light districts in the world.
We are also working at the India-Bangladesh border to stem the flow of trafficked victims into India. YouCanFreeUs is currently undertaking an independent study of the brick manufacturing industry in West Bengal to understand the child labour issues and catalyse our findings into actions to stop forced child labour.
